Is Your Guest Bathroom Ready for Guests?

If you’re like most of us, your guest bathroom is seldom ever for visitors. It’s typically the secondary bathroom where you scrub up while the master bathroom is occupied. Or maybe it’s the designated kids’ bathroom. Either way, it’s likely full of your personal effects, and you’ve likely become too accustomed to that strange odor, shabby bath mat, and dated decor.

In other words, it’s not at all suitable for guests. Here’s how to make it presentable to your holiday guests.

5 Easy Ways to Spruce Up Your Guest Bathroom

Deep clean your toilet: Start with the bowl. Using a cleaner that contains bleach, spray under the rim. Then use a bristle brush to scrub the solution around the bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes before flushing.

Next, tackle the surface. Pass over the exterior with a disinfecting wipe. Then use a spray disinfectant, starting at the base and working your way up. Be sure to get both sides of the toilet seat, too.

Clean the sink drain: If your sink drain is musty and drains slowly, give it a thorough cleansing. Because drain cleaners are loaded with harsh chemicals that will do more harm than good, opt for a natural cleaning solution. Start by boiling half a gallon of water and pour it slowly down the drain. Next, sprinkle 1 cup of baking soda into the drain. (Get it down the drain any way you can.) Follow with 1 cup of white vinegar and close the opening to keep the resulting foam in the drain. Let sit for an hour and rinse with another half gallon of boiling water.

Refresh your linens: Your guests deserve more than ratty old bath towels. Provide a fresh stack of plush towels made of Turkish cotton. And replace your bath mat with something more functional and stylish with shaggy chenille fabric that feels great underfoot.

Arrange a toiletry basket: Hotels do it. You should, too! Provide all the essentials — toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc. — in a decorative basket. Even if your guests remembered to bring everything, they’ll appreciate the thoughtfulness.

Make it fragrant: Reed diffusers provide a long-lasting, subtle scent with a blend of essential oils.
